Mentoring Initiative
The Florida Commission on
the Status of Women is dedicated to empowering
women in achieving their fullest potential, to
eliminating barriers to that achievement and to
recognizing women's accomplishments. By
supporting the growth and empowerment of women
and girls, we raise the quality of life for
everyone, because when women lead, they not only
lead businesses, they lead in their community,
they fight for their families, and they impact
issues important to the future of our state.
Studies show that in the United States,
young people with mentors are less likely to use
drugs and alcohol, earned better grades, and had
higher goals and expectations for their futures.
Young women in Florida confront numerous
obstacles to growing up and reaching their
potential. They need positive female role
models; examples of women who gain strength by
coming together to network and knowing the
importance of giving something back to their
communities and to women statewide.
Who better to set that example than you?
The Commission invites you to join us in our
endeavor to help young women of Florida
successfully navigate the oftentimes rocky path
to adulthood. While we are just in the
preliminary stages of organizing our mentoring
program, we are working to develop a database of
women leaders throughout the state who are
willing to assist in our efforts. If you are
interested in supporting this program as a
speaker, mentor, volunteer, advisor or in some
other fashion, contact the FCSW office.
The Commission congratulates you for your
achievements and efforts on behalf of the women
of the state and we look forward to future
successful and collaborative efforts geared
toward the betterment of the young women of
Florida.
