Welcome to the website of the Florida Commission
on the Status of Women! We hope that you find the
events, resources, and opportunities posted on
our site valuable. We try to maintain up-to-date
listings to stay current with the many
activities and resources for and about women in
Florida.
The Commission was
established by the Florida Legislature in 1991
with the mission of empowering women in
achieving their fullest potential, to
eliminating barriers to that achievement, and to
recognizing women's accomplishments. This highly
talented group of individuals comes together as
volunteers to research, analyze and make
recommendations to the Governor, Cabinet and
Legislature, on issues facing women and families
in Florida.
We meet quarterly as a full
Commission, and more frequently as committees to
address a broad range of issues. These include:
economic opportunity for women, women's health
women's role as care-givers, violence against
women, and the unique challenges women face in
our state. Women juggle many daily
responsibilities, and the Commission can serve
as a valuable informational resource. We work
with a variety of topics - from questions on
starting a business and personal finance to
women’s health.
Members of the public are
welcome to attend our Commission meetings and
events. We encourage all who are interested in
issues facing women in Florida contact us with
questions and ideas.
