Elsie Jones Hare
1903-1985
Inducted 1986
During a 30 year teaching career
in the Florida Panhandle, Elsie Jones Hare was an exceptional source of
inspiration for students who lived in rural poverty. An accomplished musician
and writer, she was educated at Huntington College in Alabama.
After two years in Pensacola, she centered her life in the small town of
Century, where she taught everything from French to chemistry, shorthand and
typing.
She held a lifetime teaching certificate from the state, and her students
remembered her with such fondness that she was chosen for the Florida Women's
Hall of Fame in the year following her death.
