What Women Need to Know:

  • Ninety percent of women will have sole charge of their assets at some time in their lives.
  • Single mothers raising children are the hardest hit with poverty.
  • Most women live longer than men, requiring them to make their money last longer.
  • The poverty rate of elderly women is approximately twice that of elderly men.
  • Two-thirds of all women over age 65 have no pension other than Social Security.
  • Sporadic work histories as a result of having cared for children or elderly parents means that women receive lower pension and social security benefits than men.
  • Women tend to be less informed than men about ways to secure their financial futures.
