Commissioner Shellie
Sachs Levin is a licensed Florida attorney who practiced law in in Miami-Dade
County for 25 years. In 1997, Ms. Levin left the practice of law to co-organize
community initiatives and to help elect Democratic candidates to local, state
and federal office. For the past 10 years Ms. Levin has worked for EMILY’s List,
the largest independent political action committee in the country. EMILY’s List
is a full service organization that helps elect pro-choice Democratic women to
office. Ms. Levin currently directs the EMILY’s List Majority Council programs
in the Southeastern United States and portions of the Midwest.
In addition to her work with EMILY’s List, Ms. Levin has worked as a fundraising
consultant for Democratic pro-choice candidates running for federal, state and
local office. She has recruited candidates throughout Florida and helped develop
candidate campaign and finance plans for Democratic candidates running for state
and statewide offices.
Ms. Levin served on
the National Women’s Reproductive Healthcare Advisory Board and is a former
Board member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce for Miami-Dade County, where she
was the Legislative Affairs Chair. She served on the Miami-Dade County
Commission on the Status of Women, was the Chair for Friends of the Miami-Dade
County Commission on the Status of Women, as a Board member of the Women’s
Emergency Network, as Public Policy Chair for AAUW Miami and on the State Public
Policy Committee for AAUW Florida.
