Bertica Cabrera-Morris

Ms. Cabrera Morris was born in Havana, Cuba. She is the daughter of the presidents of Massey-Ferguson Company, a heavy equipment firm. She attended elementary school in Ciego de Avila, Cuba and, after fleeing to escape Castro’s communist regime, she attended middle school in Madrid, Spain. She graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, California- where she learned English as her second language. Ms. Cabrera Morris attended the UCLA Banking Academy of Los Angeles, and made the transition to the financial world through employment with the First Interstate Bank of Los Angeles, followed by employment with the Independence Bank of Encino.

Ms. Cabrera Morris moved to Orlando in 1979, where she was employed at Sun Bank and AmeriFirst Federal. A change in career direction led her to become the first Hispanic female administrator with the Orange County Public School system, where she was involved with planning and research as it relates to growth management within the school district. From 1991 to 1993, she served as Assistant to the Chairman of Orange County, in the capacity of Assistant for Community Affairs. She left her position in 1993 to open Bertica Cabrera Consulting Firm - a public relations, marketing and governmental affairs consulting firm of which she is the principal and sole proprietor. The firm is located in downtown Orlando.

Ms. Cabrera Morris was appointed, as directed by Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, to the Central Florida Transit Authority (LYNX), where she served from 2001 - 2003. Additionally, Ms. Cabrera Morris served on the Board of Directors for the Loch Haven Park for the City of Orlando, the Minority Alliance Board, and the Florida Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. Currently, she is an active member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Cabrera Morris is past President of the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Center of Central Florida. She was also a past member of the Mayor’s Youth Employment Task Force, Mayor Fredrick’s Hispanic Advisory Committee, and the City of Orlando’s Park and Recreation Board. Ms. Cabrera Morris served the Central Florida Urban League. She was involved in the Columbus Quincentennial Core Commission Board and served on the Board of Directors for the World Cup Soccer 1994, Compact Board of Directors and the City of Orlando Sister Cities Committee. She was also previously involved as a presenter at Leadership Orlando for nine years.

She serves on the Arts Council for Central Florida. Morris was appointed to the Board of Trustees for Valencia Community College in 2005 and was re-appointed in 2007 for a 4 year term.

Ms. Cabrera Morris served as one of the State-wide Chairmans for Charlie Crist for Governor.

She enjoys participating in politics and spending time with her five children: Adam, Jose, Eric, Peter and Sarah. All of the children have graduated from Bishop Moore Catholic High School 3 have graduated from College and 2 are attending college. Ms. Cabrera Morris attends St. James Cathedral Catholic Church, and is married to Mr. Brian Morris Executive Vice President of Tilt-con Corp.
